Heh.. Determination counts...

    From famous quotes:

"War is necessary if only you obtain something at the end. " P2_Bier

"There is nothing more horrible than a won battle, except a lost battle.."

Thanks a lot for your reply.

While expressing my deep admiration and respect to you and to your team in the creation of Patrizier theme, I wish the best for this actual release. And sorry for any kind of unintentional inconvenience, for not having been "wait-and-see"_ist. I may be (not: maybe) too much counted on my presentiments (not my sentiments however) and my fallible perception.

And to complement my above message, here is a symbolic comparison (under my personal approach). I am actually on this, I hope time will change my impressions and opinions...Of course and as always, it's OK to disagree with me:

Please, but please consider this as a small joke, just for some small smiles. Nothing more.. any political, historical and related sub-meanings involved. Even after my innocent intention, if this post is considered unfavorable, admins are kindly invited to delete this.

You must know, dear players, which one is P2 and which one is P4: I judged/compared them with their performance parameters, with the boni and mali from their part; from correct management routine, and from the beginning of manufacturing to the performance end. With just an honorable exception however: The Tiger Myth!..

    Hallo, schönen abend an alle,

This message is a reply.. and as always, not an evasive one.

(I wish to precise one more time, any personal offence was intended. Name citations are for referential basis about thoughts. Life is stressful and not easy; my last aim is to play with nerves... especially of some persons that I deeply respect and owe my years of P2 gaming fun. I never want to hurt. Please believe in my sincerity that I am not provocative, nor I wish to find myself in such confrontations).
    ......................

Yes, if you love someone or something, you need them (life-coach and adviser MoS has spoken).

I do not know however, which coach /expert/ color psychologue has recommended to decision-makers (if they are not themselves to approve it), to use such colours and such neglected design, on this actual notorious Sea Map.. Even city models on the Map are transported from Port Royale 2.... Was it this difficult to create "some small niceties"?

I will not thank to decision-makers to change this Map now, in both of these reasons:

1./ It is clear that at the beginning, someone is OK for this very neglected Main Map, for the whole life of the P4. Any problem found about that.. A decisive act from the side about (manufacturing) approach on P4.
2./ After the messages of some anarcho-liberals (extreme-ists), now this have to be replaced... It is accepted, (after major / general acceptation), that they have right. But if this major acceptation wave could not became a tsunami, these all-time-negative badboys(!) will have been other-ised.

    Let's make a speculation:

    - Hundreds of thousands of copies P4 sold in Germany.
    - Another million+ more outside.
    - Producer is content.
    - Designer is prideful.
    - Players are delighted.

-"Come on MoS, why aren't you fed up to trouble waters?"

-"After all, are anybody here or there who will change their minds after my overpowered *personal narratives*?.. Any success of working persons can irritate me. BUT even most folks accept / support or show an indifference to *some sub-standard* manufacture (about a domain that is important for me), I may very well be the sole person to say this. Even this will greatly increase my badboy points. This is my choice to be, not to have. If there are good things about Patrizier, it makes me a great joy to say them also; as I already do it many times...Tell me if I am wrong on this: ... that from this wonderful P2 concept (as still-existing some die-hearts communities proved this to us), we produced some down-ed game today, and already we *know* that most of the todays PC-Gamers are impatient. So no need to crush ourselves to create a very sophisticated game. Don't you see, we even accepted one-year time of deadline, to produce a game from stratch!!".

    on the other hand:

-"My respectful image about Germany, as this is an extremely respectable country who has an image on all over the rest of the world about: Inventions/innovations, precision, systeme, methodics and sophistication/detail-ism, reliability; and all of these far ahead of the time. A trend-setter, even, then materially copied/pillaged approach by others."

    Mr. van Bergen replied:
    - "But this WiSim concept is a niche product, there was a problem about selling copies of P2 Add-On, they were never sufficient".
    - "So once this is a niche product, may I ask is this is not a risk, to try to produce something sort of "mainstream" now from that?. Maybe old fans will find it too simple, and eventual players still too difficult to bother with.

Dear P2 players... thank God now (if s/he exists) that the decision-makers had not great concerns about risky sellings at those past years..(Big thanks to Ascaron also)..Otherwise we are still be forced to play (or maybe not anymore) with initial P2 dynamics.. And here, Mr. van Bergen is saying: "At the beginning, P2 was far from quasi-perfect."

I wished to hear (maybe again), NOW, before the release, from an authoritative mouth to say: "YES, P4 IS BETTER IN MOST (not: some or many) WAYS FROM P2". This will make an anchor point to stimulate commercial success. I wish so.

But while declaring this now....while also drop a hint that more than some negative critics are "mannerist/personal/relative/extremist" approaches; and undergroundly declaring some critics-folks as "MARGINALS" (even they are)... there is an imbalance in this Game.

Someone does not necessarily write novels, to be a critic/commentator on Literature.

    Is equitable enough?

    Edit: Many typos

While in Real Life, it is completely submitted to Capitalistic Market Structure; the Game imposes Communistic dynamics... :giggle:

Sorry again for the long post. I did not write this long with the hope to be translated, thought P2_Bier

Easiness is not at all a guarantee for high selling number of games.

Bad graphics, extremely beautiful (right word: Sophisticated) concept:
Just the example of Paradox Interactive.. The studio, composed by a team *that may occupy a minivan*, is creating the most difficult War / Economy strategy-simulation games of the World, Like Hearts of Iron 3 and, recently published Victoria 2. It is necessary to sell 70 000 copies of a Game that the project is at benefit.. Their Games are always buggy or imbalanced at first, recovery extending over a period of time. I think Imperialism 1 of the old Frog City Software is the mother of the concept.
    Main objective: Conquest after organization.
Oh, and just a very recent statistics of their forum:
    Threads: 461,716, Posts: 11,264,608, Members: 221,383, Active Members: 32,429

    Beautiful Graphics, very good concept:
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.. Still there are 3 very active big fan communities, at Simtropolis, SC4Devotion, SC4ever, SimPeg etc.. Another game of years of age.. Against all publications and so-called sequels, the concept of SC4 still refusing to die.... Easy? ..surely not!
Main objective: Regional building after organization.

The examples may be multiplied, as Railroad Tycoon 2 and 3, Civilization Series and clones, etc.. I remember I bought just a so-so game like Big Oil, after a single screenshot: I loved to see Oil Wells in Sahara, connected to Algerian terminal with pipelines across the desert. The logistics story behind this scene was sufficient for me for the decision. General fact: A game must be appealing.. How? You are for that matter called "good designer", for the right answer..

To make long story short: I am saying concept, concept...concept.. This very good concept must be presented on a beautiful / appealing and most importantly, a refined scene, however... Let's make a beautiful (again, you all know what I mean) and difficult (maybe difficult is not the right word, say: Very Sophisticated) Game and see what will happen.. I bet most of the actual PC gamers are already fed up with easy or nonsense games and they desperately are relying their old Favorites. A new and very good game is actually badly needed. And now, as P4 is definitely not a game for me, I have a burning question in mind:

What can be done for this beloved P2? ... As not far from the main concept, is any Bank somewhere in Germany that may be a sponsor for a real sequel without compromise?

I remember, my first Patrizier 2 games finished always with terrible bankrupcies.. Not many things seemed to work. But with forums and other sources, progress was more and more OK. The more I then realized some success, the more this gave me the motivation to play more and so on. After all, we all know how to access the information sources, not?.. Any profi was born profi. I just said: "If others can do it, me too".

Laziness or easy concept makes me remind a "casual" nature... I think P4 will be a casual game, if bought... Hehe, this fact is not the Producer's affair! Once sell the copy...Finally, if most of the todays PC gamers are lazy, I have one and only thing to say them: With laziness, you can do nothing in life.. Even all pleasures, necessitates some efforts.

And another side note: I never heard a fact in Gaming History like even before the appearance of the main Game, its Add-On is pronounced this much.. P4 has earned this honor.

    MoS

    Hallo an alle, schöne abend,

No, I am not here again to criticize more... Enough said for now and I hope these reactions were not considered as an offence for the gamers that liked P4. Obviously these mainly due to my big deception about P4 --> because my enthusiasm is also big for P3(e)/P2(g).

Instead, I will explain what makes the difference, not between bad/mediocre and good; but between good/correct and great/wonderful game... of course from my point of view.

At this last global gaming turmoil, either here in Patrizierforum and there at Kalypso, the first fact is... that very most of the Patrizier2/P3 Eng players/lovers are unfortunately not very impressed with the most of the new game can put on the table.

Years ago, when my daughter who was 8 years old these times, she saw me play P2 and wondered what I am doing. At Pernau, I was building some Apiaries. She was sticked to the screen and followed this small sprite of the man who extracted honey.. He made some smoke screens, tried to reach the honeycomb, collected a small bit of honey, then attacked by a bunch of angry bees, then he barely saved himself in quickly returning inside the building.. We much laughed together and replayed the scene some times more.. Then she became admirer of the apiaries with beautifully colored flowers and she begun to play P2 at her own machine.. Before long, she was able to count and ask questions about minimum 20 hanseatic cities on Baltic and North Sea border..

The *soul-bridge* was established, then a little girl of 8 became admirer of Patrizier2/3. Somewhere in Turkey, from a totally different sphere, either historical, cultural, ethnical etc.. Because the game had its very nice / pleasing / pretty / sweet / charming / sympathetic / lovesome / cute arguments to establish soul-bridges... like the personality traits of an interesting (who is what and how) person. This is INFILTRATION. Global in some degree.

This is the success in life, either in personal -> and financial relations.. So if things are not cute or pretty, why to add them in our life, already full of heavy burden in itself?

    ..............

All simulation Games (War, Trade, City, Trainz etc.) are TOYS beside being a Game.. But also they are EGO BUILDERS at first rate. Obviously, if one speaks of Ego, this determines the Pride.. So:

A Toy must necessarily be _________ , not to throw out somewhere deep in the crate after tinkering with it a few time.

    Cute/Pretty : Graphic *details*.
Sophisticated: Horizontal and vertical depth.. Prideful to realize something special to her/his own. The 'prize' is proportionally delightful with the difficulty.
Charming : Not easy/banal enough that her caresses be precious for the self-ego.
    Sweet: Long-term *Addiction*.
Lovesome: No Comment... Or maybe the time-investment Choice between "The Game" and friends.

    .............

Am I wrong or Patrizier 2 was already a best seller in Germany with big selling numbers and elected as Game of The Year? .. Against all its heavily critisized characteristics in the making of this P4 project (steep learning curve, not being beginner-friendly, interface difficulties etc.)?.

This "Beginner-friendly" thing is what makes me 'hairs stand high cat's back like', ever since the first expression. And this is the worst choice for P4, where dog is buried.

Always sorry to write in english, but unfortunately I can't speak german. Thanks for your understanding.

    So sad..

This type of half-baked works are not promising for the future of PC-Gaming. The ramification between graphics-on-steroids RPG or Shut-them-All's /// and cartoonish dumbed down (so-called) strategy / simulation Games, * actually* gives little hope to me.

What is difficult to accept is : Are actual PC-Gamers this dumb? ... that the developers and mostly the producers prefer not risking to invest in a Good (you all know what I mean) Strategy / Simulation? OR in Europe there are any Producers to invest some million € more to a 5-star Game?

In either or both cases, all those signs shows a continuous decline in standards.. About which one?

    Name THEM yourself.

Victoria II is a grand strategy wargame by Paradox Interactive. It is the sequel to 2003's Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun. It was announced on August 19, 2009 and was released on 13 August 2010.

The decision to create Victoria II was influenced by voting on the Paradox Interactive forums and debate within the company. The CEO of Paradox Interactive, Fredrik Wester, publicly announced his belief that the game would never see a profit while other members of the company such as Johan Andersson were confident it would be profitable. To this end Wester promised that if the game did indeed make a profit he would shave his head and post the pictures onto the forum. This belief stemmed from the first game's lackluster sales numbers.

It was revealed in a German interview with Frederik that 70,000 copies would need to be sold in order for Victoria II to be profitable; (Now only 69 999 more)..

    Hallo to all,

This "Map" thingy is really difficult to digest, (beside many other) especially if someone wish to feel a little bit of *soul* from a Game.. Come on, you are playing a simulation Game, so a great deal of your time will pass in front of this map while thinking to determine your strategies and seeing things develop and progress... for hours and hours.

Already old map in P3 Eng. is needed a complete overhaul, but this actual P4 main Map is very difficult to place somewhere in the matrix. Despite the fact that old P3 Eng. map had a simpler look, it was decorated with some grain fields, scarecrows, animated whales and fishes, and some phosphorescence etc.. ->> expectations were risen for the future map, with or without reason... and today is difficult to accomplish them with smoke generators or a swarm of nonsense clouds.

but all those things are a second rate of importance NOW...

after seeing a general cut-it-short'ism, that was apparent since the beginning, in the production phase of the whole project.

This "Work" is unfortunately lacked a soul. All the shortcomings are not to be explained or compensated by 'small budget or small team' arguments.. As very obvious, there was/is tons of Games with minimal budget and team in the past; but their "Creation" was really a gem..

"Lack of time", was not "another" excuse anymore, as waiting after all those years, the players would wait for another year.. More haste, more waste.

Sorry again but as an old (even actual) admirer of the P3 Eng. in a whole, I am seeing this coming Game (a PR in Hanse) fell short of most criteria. It is clearly understood now, why the word of a "Completely New Game (!!)" was prononunced... As working on the "Sequel" be much "harder"..

"If you don't like it, then shut up your mouth and don't buy the Game.!" ::: OK, Thanks :giggle:

    ------------------

    * In my not-humble-at-all opinion, all people who play this lovely (until now) Patrizier game since years after years after years, with great ambition and with a great deal of fun, have the right to express themselves.. If anybody asked previously their opinion, this would be less painful.

Their deception is due to the fact that : Even they contributed [positively and *negatively ;) * ] the MOST to the Game, today they realized that this Game was not bound to them at all... They obtained the LEAST..!!
